Meditating Upon A Mesa -Canyon de Chelly

Shodo
the massacres occurred
down in the canyon
so many Navajo
killed in the
caves by the
Spanish and
then came
the calvary
until finally
Manuelito
and his people
were starved
out their crops
destroyed
by Kit
Carson's
scorched
earth policy
determined
to wipe out
any trace
of the one
true race
of Americans
forcing them
to endure
the senseless
suffering of
the long walk
to Fort Sumner
from which
many never
returned
